James taught her the art of golf as early as she was five years old. When she was 8 years old she started competing in tournaments and in just four years, won 50 Junior titles. The year 2014 was the time she advanced to the finals of US Women's Open in Pinehurst No. aged 15 with her dad along with her as a caddie. She was invited by sponsors to play at the 2015 ANA Inspiration LPGA Tour, however, she was not able to make the cut. Lee was part of the US's Junior Ryder Cup Junior Solheim Cup Curtis Cup as well as the Women's World Amateur Team Championship. When she joined Stanford University in 2016 she became the top-rated player of its history at that time when over the next three years she was awarded nine individual titles. Lee quit Stanford University to turn pro in 2019. Her amateur golf career included 17 weeks at the highest in the World Amateur Golf Ranking. Lee was awarded the Mark H.
